I cannot imagine a world with no wolves, no sandhill cranes, and no bats.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\">I will never forget the first NWF trip we took many years ago to see the sandhill cranes of Nebraska. I thought my cats were loud! On another NWF trip to Austin, TX, we saw firsthand the contribution bats make to that city. People line the banks of the river with their glasses of wine and beer\u2014staring at this bridge just waiting for the sun to go down. Then a large wave of bats flies into the sky. What a sight!<\/p>\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A love of wildlife brings people together<\/strong>, and this bonding is so critical when so many, especially young people, are connected to their devices. Growing up in Connecticut, I spent as much time as I could in swamps, streams, and marshes trying to catch (and eventually release) frogs, turtles, and snakes and whatever else happened to be around. I was an early subscriber to Ranger Rick magazine and always looked forward to its arrival (monthly\u2014I think), so when I had the opportunity to get involved with NWF, it wasn\u2019t a hard call. Nowadays I spend as much time as possible on the water and at our local Audubon conservation area looking at the birds, fish, and other wildlife. The highlight of my days there is watching the Ospreys fish in the Sound.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\">Despite all the headwinds pushing against doing the right thing for nature and the environment on a national and global level, I am energized by the great work that NWF does to continue to fight for future of the planet. I am always impressed by the magnitude and quantity of the projects that are being worked to forward the goals of the organization. I became more involved with NWF after I heard about the Wind River Tribal Buffalo Program. I was able to see the first 10 buffalo released in 2016. The ground absolutely shook during the release, and tears were running down my face. Afterwards, I made a significant, multi-year commitment to NWF to continue this work.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\">Everyone I meet through NWF is exceptional. They have a love of what they are doing, and I appreciate that. Ranger Rick offers feature articles and activities for children ages eight and up to spark their interest in the outdoors and to encourage them to become more actively involved in protecting the environment. It certainly had the desired effect on me.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\">Four things about NWF keep me excited about the work: The professional team; the mission; the non-partisan approach to collaboration; and exciting projects that make a real difference.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>NWF is a positive, proactive, science-based organization that is helping to save our natural world<\/strong>. The NWF team cares deeply about the mission, has a solid strategy, and executes efficiently. We loved looking over the monthly magazine with so many pictures.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\">NWF\u2019s work is so critical to our planet and our people. I love the scope of concerns, from the tiniest beings to the massive mammals; none are excluded or overlooked. As I\u2019ve learned more about the inner workings of the organization, I am strongly motivated to support NWF because of their legislative involvement. They are not afraid to go to the heart of the matter and address the roots of change and impact.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\">I love that they are expansive enough to offer an umbrella of organizational expertise that facilitates the building of powerful coalitions. They pull together diverse groups that may have a different focus but share an over-arching goal. This empowers and gives a greater voice to everyone.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\">One can simply donate and feel good about helping to support a critical strategic cause. Beyond that, there are so many ways to become involved! They offer magazines for children and families. There are wildlife\/gardening activities that an individual, a family, or a community can undertake. One\u2019s interests broaden and the free webinars support your learning. There are new friends to meet, new places to explore, and new adventures to seek. I wanted to donate to an organization that is passionate about preserving those lands and has the expertise to make a difference. NWF leapt out as an organization that met these criteria and has a record of impact.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\">As a career scientist and leader, I find that NWF possesses qualities I admire. They actively seek expert input, take clear positions based upon science, and collaborate with skilled local groups to achieve solutions. I&#8217;ve found that their personnel are excellent and their leadership sets measurable goals that the entire team works to achieve.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\">It should be a national priority to preserve our natural habitats for North America\u2019s diverse wildlife. I\u2019ve traveled to more than 157 countries, and most trips have been to locations with ample opportunities for wildlife viewing. In my retirement from a career in radiology, I volunteer at a spay\/neuter clinic where our focus is on homeless cats and helping low-income families care for their pets.
