On April 17, 2025, the Administration signed a proclamation that attempted to open the Pacific Islands Heritage Marine National Monument to commercial fishing. NWF’s Hawaiian affiliate, Conservation Council for Hawai’i, successfully sued to halt that order, finding it unlawful. This lawsuit ensures the protection of the critical species that depend on the marine national monument to thrive.
